I do not understand why this rule (2013) that you cited - "Only the lower locant for a multiple bond is cited, except when the numerical difference between the two locants is greater than one, in which case the higher locant is enclosed in parentheses." - was brought into existence. Are there any corner cases of organic molecules where the ambiguity in the location of the pi bond was resolved through exactly this rule? | |
