I'm trying to understand organometallic raegents but am stuck at halogen-metal exchanges... For

For example if you have PhBr + BuLi$\ce{PhBr + BuLi}$ you get PhLi + BuBr...$\ce{PhLi + BuBr}$, I don't undertandunderstand why PhBu + BrLi$\ce{PhBu + BrLi}$ wouldn't form. Thanks.
