Nov 17, 2012 at 8:47 comment added Richard Terrett @jonsca - I've got the reaction going in a glass of salty water right now - 12 volt regulated power supply, two bits of wire and two mechanical pencil leads (graphite + clay) for electrodes. The electrodes rapidly disintegrate.
