Sep 16, 2020 at 14:30 comment added Aniruddha Deb @rash it's not a single reaction, rather a set of reactions, all of which are intramolecular (first one is acid-catalysed nucleophilic addition to carbonyl group, then the intramolecular acid-base, then the rearrangement). Try analysing each step and see where you are getting confused.

But though I understand the mechanism, it feels completely random to me due to the shifts which are happening and I can't reason why it is so. At least knowing the name of the reactions involved, I can refer to the Internet to learn the mechanisms and how it works myself. If you know the reactions involved, then please do share it with me.
