In first order reaction , t 99.9% ( time taken for 99.9% completion of reaction ) comes out as 10 x half life time. So you can either say that a reactant [A] ( A -> product , elementary reaction ) halves 10 times or only 0.1% of [A] remains , at t 99.9% . Both should give same answers , but i got slightly different answers. Is there any reason that causes this ? For eg , halving 64M [A] 10 times gives 0.0625M and 0.1% of 64M is 0.064M

2$\begingroup$ 2^10=1024, so it is not exactly 99.9% and 0.1%. $\endgroup$– PoutnikNov 11 at 9:58

1$\begingroup$ That also leads to dual storage unit series kB, MB, GB as multiples of 1000 and kiB, MiB and GiB are multiples of 1024. $\endgroup$– PoutnikNov 11 at 10:48
