Does Cannizzaro reaction occur simultaneously during benzoin condensation of benzaldehyde catalyzed by $\ce{NaOH}$ and thiamine? I assume that benzaldehyde break down to benzoic acid and benzyl alcohol during benzoin condensation as because $\ce{NaOH}$ is used in the reaction as catalyst.
