Can I make a phosphate buffer of pH 7.4 starting with phosphoric acid and then adding NaOH until the pH reaches 7.4. What are the disadvantages of using this method over sodium phosphates?

$\begingroup$ this way, you have limited control for the final concentration and you need to involve pH measurement. OTOH, using hydrogen- and dihydrogenphosphate, masses for salts are already tabelized for given pH. $\endgroup$
