When I was studying osmosis I came across the formula for osmotic pressure as:

$$\text{Osmotic pressure} =CRT$$

where

$C$=molarity $(n/V)$
$R$=universal gas constant
$T$=temperature

This equation looks like the ideal gas equation $$PV=nRT$$where $$P=nRT/V$$ Is there any similarity between osmotic pressure equation and ideal gas equation?

  • $\begingroup$ Absolutely. The equations are analogous. $\endgroup$ – Buck Thorn May 29 at 18:10
