Solubility/Processibility How does addition of organic conjugated polymersside chains affect solubility and processibility of polyphenylene vinylene?

I am absolutely not a student of chemistry, but rather a student ofstudying electrical engineering and physics and so this question might be very trivial. But, viewingIn a recent lecture I was told<span class=$OC_1 C_{10}-PPV$" />
that the $OC_1 C_{10}-PPV$ molecule(in$\ce{OC1C10}\text{-PPV}$ molecule has the picture) had these chains added to the O-atomoxygen atom down below because it allowedallows for solubility and processibility.:

poly(2-methoxy-5-(3,7-dimethyloctoxy)-p-phenylene-vinylene)

How does the addition of these chains affect the solubility and chemical processibility of the molecule?
